MTV has always been more than a TV network.

Today, MTV is announcing a new hashtag initiative as part of its multi-year social campaign, “Look Different,” which began in April. The goal of the program is to use the power of social media to drive social change.

For the hashtag campaign, people will be asked to share real-life scenarios that either challenge or promote bias. #GoodLook will be used to share instances that challenge bias, while #NotAGoodLook will be used to share instances that promote bias. The best #GoodLook messages will appear on-air on MTV beginning in late July and the “Look Different” website at http:good.lookdifferent.org

.MTV has created an on-air promo spot where every week they will feature 1-2 new #GoodLook photos, Vines, tweets, etc. that were submitted with the hashtag via any social platform that uses hashtags. The promo spot will run throughout the day on the network and in primetime and debut at the end of July.

The winner will receive $10,000 and the chance to work with MTV to make their idea a reality.

LookDifferent.org serves as the campaign hub and, along with the campaign’s social accounts twitter, tumbler), helps young people recognize bias in themselves and their surroundings. Previously announced components include: Implicit Bias Quiz to reveal automatic associations people may have about different races and a seven-day Racial Bias Cleanse to help people begin unlearning biases that have built up over years. Partners include the Anti-Defamation League, NAACP, National Council of La Raza, National Partnership for Women & Families, The Trevor Project and more.
MUMBAI: The police action against Marathi-speaking people at Yellur in Karnataka has prompted protests by political parties in Maharashtra, with the Shiv Sena calling it as an act of "terror" and seeking Centre's intervention in the "disputed" region. "It is the reign of goondas. Even we can do this goondagiri but we won't do that. We demand that the Centre immediately declare the border area in Karnataka where 20 lakh Marathi-speaking people live, as centrally administered region and appoint a central representative as administrator," Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut told reporters. .....read more

"Brutal atrocities are going on in Belgaum against Marathi-speaking people merely over removal of a board. Is this the rule of law?" Raut, a Rajya Sabha MP, said after a meeting of the Shiv Sena-BJP-led "mahayuti" (grand alliance) passed a resolution condemning the "assault" by Karnataka police. Earlier, an editorial in Sena mouthpiece "Saamana" described Sunday's police action at Yellur in Belgaum district as an act of "terrorism" and sought the Centre's intervention.

"In Modi, we have a strong Prime Minister and in Rajnath Singh, we have got a strong home minister. The Marathi speaking population in the border area has great expectation from them. If Karnataka police are indulging in terror against Marathi-speaking people, it is the responsibility of the Central government to curb this terrorism.

We are making this appeal to the central government because those ruling Maharashtra are incompetent," the editorial said. Police had on Sunday lathicharged a group of pro-Maharashtra supporters who threw stones at them at Yellur after a "Maharashtra Rajya" plaque re-erected by them was removed by the district administration. Pro-Maharashtra supporters had on Saturday re-erected a controversial signboard at Yellur after the previous one was razed to the ground by public works department on Friday following a high court order.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. "All political parties blasted the Maharashtra Sadan force-feeding issue. Will they show the same zeal in condemning this injustice to Marathi-speaking people of Karnataka," Saamana editorial said. "Why is the Congress silent on this matter?
When BJP's Yeddyurappa was the chief minister, they used to raise their voice on the issue but they haven't done so now," leader of opposition in the state legislative council Vinod Tawde said. "We will ask the Centre to take necessary steps keeping in view the assault and likely such assaults in future," he said. MNS chief Raj Thackeray put the onus on the Narendra Modi government. "It is unfortunate that the Centre is silent on the issue. BJP has a majority at the Centre. The BJP MPs should convey the sentiments of the Marathi-speaking people in border areas," he said, adding, "Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is not serious on this matter." "When Raj Thackeray speaks something, all pounce on him but when such a thing happens in Karanataka, no one speaks," the MNS chief said.
NEW DELHI: The average CEO pay at India's top listed companies has risen to Rs 10 crore a year, but still remains less than one-tenth of over Rs 100 crore median remuneration paid to their peers in the US.
The top executives of the country's biggest bluechip companies, forming part of the stock market's 30-share benchmark index Sensex, were paid an average remuneration of Rs 9.9 crore in the latest fiscal 2013-14 -- up from about Rs 8.5 crore in the previous year.

In comparison, the average CEO pay for the companies forming part of the US stock market's 30-share benchmark index DJIA (Dow Jones Industrial Average) stood at USD 17.5 million (Rs 105 crore) during the last year.

The corresponding figures for the UK and Germany stood at about Rs 60 crore and Rs 50 crore, respectively, in 2013 -- which are also significantly higher than the Indian average.

The average CEO pay for the Sensex companies would come down even further if the figures for the six PSU companies are taken into account, as their annual packages are considerably lower as they follow government regulations for salaries.

Russia Steps Up Help for Rebels in Ukraine War

http://raghurajcashcode.com/KIEV, Ukraine — Rather than backing down after last week’s downing of a civilian passenger jet, Russia appears to be intervening more aggressively in the war in eastern Ukraine in what American and Ukrainian officials call a dangerous escalation that will almost certainly force more robust retaliation from the United States and Europe.Russia has increased its direct involvement in fighting between the Ukrainian military and separatist insurgents, moving more of its own troops to the border and preparing to arm the rebels with ever more potent weapons, including high-powered Tornado rocket launchers, American and Ukrainian officials said on Friday.Continue reading the main story

The officials, citing satellite images and other military intelligence, said that Russia had positioned heavy weapons, including tanks and other combat vehicles, at several points along the border where there has been intense fighting. On Thursday, Russia unleashed artillery attacks on eastern Ukraine from Russian territory, officials in Washington and Kiev said. While Russia flatly denied accelerating its intervention on Friday, American and Ukrainian officials said Moscow appeared anxious to stem gains by government forces that have succeeded in retaking some rebel-held territory.PhotoUkraine troops have reduced territory held by insurgents. American officials blamed a Russian-provided surface-to-air missile for the explosion and hoped the shock of the episode would prompt the Kremlin to rethink its approach, but they are increasingly convinced it has not.Obama administration officials said Russia’s rising involvement had stiffened the resolve of European leaders who have been reluctant to confront Moscow for fear of damaging their own economies. But there was no appetite for a direct military response, and it remained unclear whether the West could or would take action that may change the calculus of President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as Moscow seems to devote more firepower to the fight.Continue reading the main storyAmerican and Ukrainian officials said Russia has moved beyond simply helping separatists and is now engaging directly in the war. Ukraine Crisis in Maps

While the United States has been hesitant to make its intelligence public, Ukrainian officials have provided a daily, running list of Russian incursions, including flights into Ukrainian air space by fighter jets and unmanned surveillance drones, as well as mortar and rocket attacks.“We have facts of shelling of Ukrainian positions from the territory of Russian Federation,” Andriy Lysenko, a spokesman for Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, said at a briefing in Kiev on Friday. “We have facts on the violation of air border between Ukraine and Russia.”Mr. Lysenko said there were active-duty Russian soldiers who had surrendered, as well as volunteer Russian fighters who had been captured. “We have information about weapons and mercenaries who have respective skills for warfare, who have been passing over from the territory of the Russian Federation,” Mr. Lysenko said.PhotoA chunk of fuselage from the downed Malaysia Airlines plane remained in a field in eastern Ukraine on Thursday.  CreditMauricio Lima for The New York TimesRussia pointedly denied the American allegations on Friday. In a statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the United States of engaging in a “smear campaign.”“All of this is accompanied by references to some ‘evidence’ allegedly available to the United States,” the ministry said. “Not one of these ‘evidences,’ however, has been shown, which is not surprising. Facts and specifics to support false allegations simply do not exist.”On Friday, the European Union took another step toward imposing additional economic penalties focused on the financial, energy and military sectors of the Russian economy, but a letter to European leaders from Herman Van Rompuy, the president of the European Council, made clear that officials were still struggling to find a balance.PhotoExperts exhumed four unidentified bodies from a mass grave in the eastern Ukrainian city of Slovyansk on Friday. CreditMarion Thibaut/Agence France-Presse — Getty ImagesMr. Lysenko, the military spokesman, said that Ukrainian troops were coming under increased fire from the Russian side of the border, and that the Ukrainian military had recently shot down three Russian surveillance drones. One was used to target a Ukrainian base near the town of Amvrosiivka, which then quickly came under heavy rocket attack, he said.Ukrainian officials say their forces have recaptured at least 10 towns, shrinking the amount of territory under rebel control in the embattled regions of Luhansk and Donetsk and gaining substantial advantage, including over some of the main highways in the region. The recent gains by Ukrainian forces included the recapture of the city of Lysychansk after days of fighting. The city of more than 100,000 had been a rebel stronghold, and it posed a strategic obstacle to government troops pressing through the Luhansk region from the north and west. Ukrainian ground troops needed air support to expel the rebels, but were able to push them south and out of the city.Continue reading the main storyContinue reading the main storyOfficials have said they believed that they could defeat the rebels within three weeks if there were no further intervention by Russia.By placing forces close to the border, the Russians can provide fire support to the separatists, prevent Ukrainian troops from establishing control over the border and facilitate the delivery of Russian arms to the separatists. The Ukrainian military has expressed frustration that at least two sections of the border remain porous. One goal of the Russian attacks on targets, an American official said, is to keep Ukrainian forces away from the border, making it easier for Russia to transport weapons and cooperate with the insurgents.“The quantity and sophistication of weaponry being sent by Russia across the border is increasing,” one Western official said on Friday, adding that Russian artillery units have been firing into Ukraine from Russian territory “in direct support of separatists.” Like other officials with access to classified intelligence assessments, he spoke on the condition of anonymity.Correction: July 26, 2014
London: Murali Vijay has backed Ravindra Jadeja to be a last-day hero as India closed in on a coveted Test win against England at Lord's.Both players had a day to remember on Sunday, although in opener Vijay's case it was bittersweet as he just missed out on a place on the Lord's honours board after being dismissed on 95.But his painstaking knock laid the foundation for India's second innings 342, a total bolstered by a dashing eighth-wicket stand of 99 in just 100 balls between Jadeja (68) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (52).Left-arm spinner Jadeja then took a wicket with his first ball Sunday to have Sam Robson out leg before. At stumps, England were 105 for four - still needing a further 214 runs to reach their victory target of 319 - with both captain Alastair Cook and Ian Bell already out cheaply.Jadeja promises to pose particular problems for England's remaining four out of six left-handers - Gary Ballance like Cook fell tamely on Sunday - in Moeen Ali, Ben Stokes, Stuart Broad and James Anderson as there is now significant rough outside their off stump."The game is really well-placed," Vijay told reporters after stumps. "It is doing a lot for the spinner because of the foot marks and they have six left-handers so it is going to be tough for them."The 30-year-old Vijay was on the brink of making hundreds in successive matches, following his excellent 146 in the drawn first Test of this five-match series at Trent Bridge when, after more than six hours at the crease, he fell an agonising five runs short when caught behind off Anderson with the new ball."It is disappointing but I will take it any day if we pull off a win tomorrow (Monday). Jadeja played really well, carrying through his aggressive intent and obviously Bhuvneshwar was hitting the ball. They both put us in a very good position."Vijay's innings was a throwback by comparison but invaluable all the same given there was still some life in a seaming pitch when he walked out to bat. "The wicket was doing a bit, behaving up and down," he said. "On this wicket, I thought rather than play the drive I need to wait for my strength."Vijay had had something of a stop-start Test career since making his debut back in 2008. But he was recalled when Gautam Gambhir fell out of favour, with the Tamil Nadu batsman determined to make the most of his second chance."The first 10 matches I played in three years. That says it all. After that I got my chance, I waited for it, and kept myself patient. When I got it, I just wanted to grab it."Vijay and Jadeja began to turn the tide in India's favour with a quickfire stand of 32 in 35 balls."When he actually came in I could feel the energy that he would do something special," said Vijay of a Jadeja innings that saw the left-hander hit nine fours in 57 balls. "The intent was there and from ball one he was positive. At that time we needed somebody like that. I was playing the anchor role, and he was trying to get the runs.India are now on the brink of their first away win in 16 Tests, their last overseas victory coming against the West Indies in Jamaica in 2011. And were they to go 1-0 up in the series, it would also represent only India's second win in 17 Tests at Lord's following their 1986 success at the 'home of cricket'.For the latest cricket news, like us on Facebook or follow us on Twitter. As Israeli troops and war planes bombarded Gaza, both sides reported death tolls that made clear Sunday was the deadliest day so far in the war. The Palestinian Health Ministry reported 87 Palestinians had died and the Israeli military said 13 soldiers were dead. The fighting signaled that what had begun as a limited ground invasion by Israel had moved into a more extensive and costlier phase for both sides. Most of the Palestinians were killed in an eastern neighborhood of Gaza City called Shejaiya. For the Palestinians, it was the deadliest episode since July 8, when Israel began its offensive, first from the air, which was intended to curb rocket fire against its cities and the danger of infiltration through tunnels running under the border from Gaza into Israel. The Gaza Health Ministry reported that more than 300 people were injured in Shejaiya. Tolls were not available from the refugee camps in central Gaza, where fleeing residents reported a similar Israeli advance, with artillery.

Iran Nuclear Talks Extended by Four Months, Diplomats SayIran
, the United States and the five other countries negotiating over the future of the Iranian nuclear program have agreed to a four-month extension of the negotiations, giving them more time to try to bridge a major difference over whether the country will be forced to dismantle parts of its nuclear infrastructure, according to diplomats involved in the negotiations. The original deadline for an accord was July 20, though a temporary agreement that has been in effect since November envisioned a possible extension. The United States and its negotiating partners — Britain, France, Germany, China and Russia — have argued that Iran must dismantle major elements of its uranium enrichment program, and envision the restrictions going on for a decade or more. It is unclear whether, in four months, the two sides can bridge that gap.
In Subprime Auto Bubble, Borrowers Pay Sky-High Rates
Auto loans to people with tarnished credit have risen more than 130 percent in the five years since the immediate aftermath of the financial crisis, with roughly one in four new auto loans last year going to borrowers considered subprime — people with credit scores at or below 640.The explosive growth is being driven by some of the same dynamics that were at work in subprime mortgages. A wave of money is pouring into subprime autos, as the high rates and steady profits of the loans attract investors. Just as Wall Street stoked the boom in mortgages, some of the nation’s biggest banks and private equity firms are feeding the growth in subprime auto loans by investing in lenders and making money available for loans. The New York Times examined more than 100 bankruptcy court cases, dozens of civil lawsuits against lenders and hundreds of loan documents and found that subprime auto loans can come with interest rates that can exceed 23 percent. The loans were typically at least twice the size of the value of the used cars purchased, including dozens of battered vehicles with mechanical defects hidden from borrowers. Such loans can thrust already vulnerable borrowers further into debt, even propelling some into bankruptcy, according to the court records, as well as interviews with borrowers and lawyers in 19 states.
